I love organization so much that made a business of it, but things seem to get a little loose during the summer months. I’ve found that back to school is a natural time to set routines that will help make your family’s life easier.

A simple way to start is to make lists of what you expect to be done every morning and evening. This makes your expectations totally clear , which in turn makes your house feel calmer; because instead of having to tick through a list of things that need to be done, you can say “is everything on your list done?”

When you’re making the lists for your kids, think about the things that make you crazy every day and focus on those things! Backpacks left out, lights left on, socks scattered around the house… focus on simple things that cause conflict and try to fix them. Then write the list on a Post-it note and then put them in a can’t miss spot. Our are going to go on bedroom closet doors, but next to the bathroom mirror, or on the refrigerator could work just as well.

I’ve read that it takes 66 days, on average, to set a new routine, so be patient but also know that the time you put in now will help your kids feel calmer and more in control of their lives. And that really can make every day lovelier.
